Hello Everyone!
I wanted to ask fellow caretakers a question and see what has worked in their situation. So here is the background so far.
My father is being cared for by my mother. My mother is also the primary caretake of my physical disabled brother who has muscular dsytrophy. My father has never had a confirmed diagnosis of HD. However after much fighting and threating and more fighting he relented and went to see a neurologist. The neurologist and I had a converstation and stated that his symptoms allign with HD. However my father refuses to take a genetic test confirming this diagnosis. My father has always been stubborn but i think that the symptoms of HD has made him even more stubborn. As the disease has progressed, my mother is seeing more issues with hygene and soiling himself. I know that my HD patients self care does not become a concern for them. Recently things have taken a turn for the worse. There are some days where my father will soil himself and walk around the house while my mother is taking care of my brother. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to ensure my father's cleanliness? We want to have him where the depends mens underware but he refuses to wear it. My mom is at a loss here because my father cannot be coxed into doing anything to make the best of a bad situation. Luckily at this point he is still feeding himself but we worry what we will do once he is unable to do more things for himself.
