I am new to being a caregiver. My husband is 80 years old and was just diagnosed with mild dementia. He is still able to remember and do some things but thinks he is able to handle more. He recently had shingles and because of the symptons and pain would not shower. Now the shingles are done and he has not showered for over a month and is using the shingles as his excuse. I have tried to encourage him by saying it would make him feel better for sure but he becomes agitated and I don't want to provoke him. Can anyone tell me how to handle the not showering? Is this a part of the dementia? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
