Hello!! Newbie to the site

Hi everyone...

I am 53 and I care for my 79 yr old mother. I've been her caregiver for many many years. I am having trouble getting the drs to help me. I believe she has dementia but they won't help me. She has declined a lot in the last couple months too. I have renal cancer and adrenal insufficieny... I can no longer do everything she wants and she treats me like her waitress... I'm sick of it!! She won't go on medicaid because they will take her $$ and her life revolves around her $$(which isn't much). I do have POA and health care proxy but if I do anything against her will I will catch h3ll for it. Its so hard to do anything... She still drives too but not a lot anymore. I am looking for help to come to the house but I will have to pay for it and I don't have that kind of money either. What have you all done??? Thank you for any advice.

I am Nichole and I am one of the staff here at CAN. Thanks so much for posting and sharing abiut yourself, your mom, and your caregiving situation.

I hope that others will chime in with their experience in finding and getting in-home care. I also wanted to suggest reaching out to our Caregiver Help Desk. They might be able to talk through some options that are available to you locally, etc. The Help Desk is totally free and you can reach them via phone at 855-227-3640 or by chat on our webste (click the orange "Help Desk" button on the bottom right of the screen. The Help Desk hours are Monday through Friday, 8AM to 7PM Eastern but you can reach out any time. If you reach out outsude of their hours, you'll just be prompted to leave a voicemail if you call or your chat message will be semt as an email.

I hope I have been some help, and I hope some other family caregivers that have navigated in-home care will chime with their stories and experience. Thank you again for sharing and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.
