Family caregivers that provide assistance for toileting/transferring

Hello everyone,

My name is Susan, and I am a research scientist at Georgia Institute of Technology's Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation (CIDI). CIDI is home to several research programs devoted to making the built environment, products, technologies, and services more usable and accessible for older adults and their caregivers.

Currently, I am leading a research study to understand how assistive devices and technologies used for toilet transfers can be designed better for individuals with functional limitations and their caregivers.

I joined this forum in hopes of connecting with family caregivers around the country that provide physical assistance for toileting and transferring who may be able to provide our team with insights.

What kinds of strategies, devices, and technologies do you use for toileting and transfers?  what works well, what doesn't? What do the next generation of designers and engineers need to consider when designing for this population?

If you have any insights to share from your personal experiences, I would love to hear from you! A response to this thread directly would be awesome, as would be connecting via e-mail, at su.lee@design.gatech.edu! I can also be reached at (404)385-2632.

Thank you!!

Susan Lee
