The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protects the privacy of a patient’s health information. But for caregivers, especially those supporting someone with a serious illness or disability, HIPAA can be confusing and sometimes feel like a barrier to helping your loved one. HIPAA protects your loved one’s privacy, but doesn’t have to shut caregivers out.
