Caregiver Action Network Welcomes Neerakar Uprety as Vice President of Finance

Caregiver Action Network (CAN) is proud to announce that Neerakar Uprety has joined the organization as its new Vice President of Finance.

Neerakar brings more than sixteen years of senior leadership experience across nonprofit finance, operations, and human resources, with a career dedicated to strengthening mission driven organizations that serve vulnerable workers, families, and communities. His work sits at the intersection of financial stewardship, organizational strategy, and equity focused systems building, ensuring that resources, people, and infrastructure are aligned to advance social impact at scale.

“At Caregiver Action Network, we believe that caregivers deserve organizations that are not only compassionate, but also financially strong, transparent, and built for long term impact,” said Marvell Adams Jr., CEO of Caregiver Action Network. “Neerakar’s strategic leadership, deep nonprofit expertise, and commitment to mission centered financial management will be critical as we continue to grow and serve caregivers nationwide.”

Most recently, Neerakar served as Director of Finance, Operations, and Human Resources at Farmworker Justice, where he led organization wide budgeting, forecasting, audit readiness, federal and foundation grant management, board reporting, and major systems transformations. He partnered closely with the CEO and Board to guide financial strategy, oversee compliance with complex funding regulations, strengthen internal controls, and modernize operations through process improvements. His leadership helped position the organization for sustainability during periods of funding volatility, organizational change, and strategic growth.

Earlier in his career, Neerakar held leadership roles in international and domestic nonprofit organizations, including EcoAgriculture Partners, where he oversaw financial policy development, multi donor grant portfolios, and enterprise systems implementation. Across roles, he has been known for building strong cross functional teams, mentoring staff, and translating complex financial information into clear, actionable insight for program leaders and governing boards.

Throughout his career, Neerakar has centered equity, accountability, and mission impact in financial and operational decision making. He views finance not simply as compliance, but as a strategic tool to empower programs, support staff, and ensure that organizations can deliver on their commitments to the communities they serve.

In his role as Vice President of Finance at Caregiver Action Network, Neerakar will lead the organization’s financial strategy, overseeing budgeting, grants management, systems, and organizational infrastructure. He will work closely with executive leadership and the Board to strengthen financial sustainability, support program growth, and ensure that CAN’s resources are stewarded with transparency, rigor, and purpose in service of caregivers across the country.

Neerakar describes his work as transformative, rooted in the belief that strong and ethical financial systems can be powerful instruments of change—enabling organizations to grow with integrity, steward resources with care, and show up consistently and boldly for the communities and families who depend on them.
