WASHINGTON, DC – Caregiver Action Network (CAN), the nation’s leading family caregiver organization, today announced that Chance Browning has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer (COO). In this role, Browning will oversee CAN’s day-to-day operations, shape organizational strategy, and help accelerate the nonprofit’s impact on behalf of the more than 63 million Americans who serve as family caregivers.

Browning previously led CAN’s Strategic Partnerships portfolio, where he expanded high-impact collaborations with corporate, nonprofit, and advocacy partners across the country—advancing CAN’s national visibility and strengthening support for caregivers navigating complex health challenges.

“Chance has been instrumental in elevating CAN’s voice and expanding our reach at a time when caregivers need us most,” said Marvell Adams Jr., CEO of Caregiver Action Network. “His strategic insight, operational vision, and deep commitment to the caregiver community make him exactly the leader we need as CAN scales its programs and influence. This is more than a promotion—it’s a powerful step forward for our mission.”

Browning brings more than 15 years of experience in strategic communications, nonprofit programming, media relations, and national advocacy. Before joining CAN, he served as a consultant with Reingold and ScoutComms, where he supported a broad range of nonprofit clients. His career has centered on elevating underrepresented voices through storytelling, policy engagement, and public affairs strategy.

He previously served as Director of Communications for Student Veterans of America and has played key roles in advocacy efforts spanning veterans and military families, education policy, the LGBTQ+ community, and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Browning has also served as a political organizer at the local, state, and presidential levels.

Browning holds a Master of Arts in Political Communication from American University—including certificates from the AU Public Affairs and Advocacy Institute and the AU Campaign Management Institute—and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Midwestern State University.

“I’m honored to step into the role of COO at such a critical time for family caregivers,” said Chance Browning. “Caregivers are the backbone of our healthcare system, and I’m committed to ensuring CAN continues to expand its reach, deepen its partnerships, and guarantee every caregiver is seen, valued, and able to access the support they deserve.”

“Chance’s appointment to Chief Operating Officer marks a pivotal moment for CAN,” said Dawn Shedrick, Chair of Caregiver Action Network’s Board of Directors. “His strategic acumen has been indispensable to our organizational growth. We look forward to his continued leadership as CAN enters its next phase of expansion and further solidifies its role as an innovator in caregiver support.”
