Unique Challenges of Working Caregivers

According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, 62% of caregivers for a loved one with cancer, including leukemia, are employed. Of those, 83% report at least one negative effect on their work or productivity, and were more likely to report being stressed or distracted while working.

Working caregivers of a loved one with leukemia often face the difficult task of balancing the urgent and unpredictable demands of treatment with the responsibilities of their job. Frequent appointments, medical crises, and the need for constant vigilance can clash with rigid work schedules, leading to stress, fatigue, and fear of lost income or job security.

On top of this, many working caregivers struggle with guilt, feeling they are not giving enough either at work or at home, while navigating a system that rarely accommodates the emotional and cultural realities of caregiving.
