Press Release: Caregiver Action Network and RubyWell Announce Partnership to Help Family Caregivers Cover Caregiving Costs

Collaboration aims to provide financial and educational resources for caregivers in the “Missing Middle”

WASHINGTON, DC – Caregiver Action Network (CAN), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the missions of family caregivers across the United States, is proud to announce a new partnership with RubyWell, an innovative company that’s paving a path to financial stability for all family caregivers. CAN and RubyWell both recognize the value that family caregivers bring to their loved ones, the country’s healthcare system, and society as a whole – and are committed to helping them get paid accordingly.

The community caring for older adults in the U.S. continues to expand: 37 million family caregivers spend an average of $7200 in expenses annually, providing more than $600 billion in care each year. While those with higher-than-average savings may be able to provide the necessary financial support, and those with low incomes can receive support from Medicaid, there are no resources to help those in the “Missing Middle.” This gap is the focus of the new partnership, combining CAN’s advocacy and resources with RubyWell’s commitment to easing the financial strain of caregiving by helping family caregivers get trained and paid for the care they provide.

“Caregivers are often thrust into situations where they must make crucial decisions about the well-being of their loved ones without the proper resources or support,” said Marvell Adams Jr., CEO of Caregiver Action Network. “We’re working to change that, and our partnership with RubyWell is a crucial step toward ensuring no family has to navigate these challenges unprepared.”

Through this partnership, CAN and RubyWell will be working to provide both resources and technology to support family caregivers in the Missing Middle. Financial information is the backbone of the collaboration, with accessible articles and guides on how to cover the costs of caring, protecting assets from Medicaid, how to pay for housing and care costs, and more. At the core is the opportunity to get paid. Through RubyWell’s technology, caregivers can assess whether they qualify to get trained and paid as a Medicare-certified home health aide for the aging adult they care for.

“Our partnership with CAN allows us to reach more family caregivers with the information they need to navigate their financial journey through caregiving,” said Julie Kennedy, Co-founder and CEO of RubyWell. “As we launch RubyWell’s family caregiver compensation solution in Pennsylvania and expand to other states, we look forward to seeing members of the CAN community apply for and benefit from our programs.”

New resources, from informational webinars to Facebook RealTalk events, support services, and financial planning tools will continue to be added as the partnership evolves. With the overarching goal of making every family caregiver a paid caregiver, the CAN-RubyWell partnership will bring together the tools, programs, resources, and actionable information that family caregivers – especially those in the Missing Middle – need to succeed.
