There are great disparities in amyloidosis care in the U.S.
Access to experienced specialists can vary widely depending on where a patient lives. Some families must travel long distances to reach medical centers specializing in amyloidosis care. These travel demands can add financial strain and logistical complexity to caregiving.
The American Northeast has the highest mortality rates for amyloidosis patients.
Conversely, the American South, which also has greater socioeconomic disparity, has much lower mortality rates.
Data by Stanford Medicine indicates that these differences may be due to the scarcity of specialized amyloidosis treatment centers in the south.

Specialized treatment centers, mostly in urban areas and more prevalent in the Northeast, lead to higher diagnosis and treatment rates.
