My mom was in an assisted living facility for a while. When she got agitated, the staff found that giving her activities similar to the work she had done in her job would help. She had worked in a hospital, so they would have her organize “charts” and inventory supplies. My mom also loved to cook. Sometimes, if she were having a rough day, they would ask her to help them bake cookies. Giving her a job that was somewhat connected to what she did most of her life helped distract her and, we’re guessing, made her feel useful.
